All of our homestay families have been visited by our staff to ensure that you will have the best homestay experience possible. Although we understand that most students want to be placed as close as possible to the school, most of our homestay families are located in the suburban areas surrounding Honolulu. Most families live 45-60 minutes by bus from the school. If being close to the school or nightlife is important to you, we recommend that you explore our accommodation options in or near Waikiki.

Homestaying means staying with an English-speaking Los Angeles family. You will live as they live. This means eating what they eat and following their family rules. This is a great choice if you want to practise your English with native speakers and experience the local culture. Homestays are safe and friendly with all host-families being carefully checked by the homestay agencies we work with. These agencies make sure you get the best family for you. Homes vary in type. Some homes are apartments, some are townhomes, and some are single family homes. Students are placed in a single or twin room. Each room is furnished with a bed, dresser and closet. Some rooms have TVs and other amenities. Students also have access to a shared bathroom. Bed linen and towels are provided by the host family.
Host families are located either in the city limits of Santa Monica or in adjacent cities. Some of the typical neighborhoods where host families live are: West Los Angeles, Westwood, Culver City, Marina del Rey, and Venice.
If you prefer you can share a residence or an apartment with international students that have become your friends. We’ve thought of everything, and there are plenty of options to choose from. We make our choice of adequate accommodation for our students based on three principles – cleanliness, comfort, and convenience. When you book a course with Rainbow Project Agency in the United States, we give you all the help you need to make your visa application go smoothly.
The F-1 Visa (Academic Student) allows you to enter the United States as a full-time student. To learn English in America you will need a F-1 student. This depends on the number of weeks you will study, and the program type you choose.
In order to study on this visa you need to take a course of 18 hours or more per week, i.e. Semi-Intensive (18 hours) or Intensive English (22.5 hours) courses. If you would like to take the General English course of 20 lessons per week you would not be able to study on an F1 visa.
When you have been accepted onto an English course , we will be send an I-20 form. This is the first step in the student visa application process. With the I-20 form you can apply for a F-1 student visa at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate. A Form I-20 is a government form that tells the U.S. government that you are eligible for F-1 Student Status. Students have limited opportunities to work on campus and will not be authorized to work off-campus. Therefore, students should not plan to finance their education by working. Students must show proof of financial support for the period of study.
U.S. Department of State – Student Visas Website
On a student visa you may stay as long as you are a full time student, and maintain your student status, even if the F-1 visa in your passport expires while you are in America. After completing the course of studies, you are allowed to stay for an extra 60 days to prepare for your return home. This 60 day grace period is dependent upon maintenance of student status, and upon completion of your full enrollment.
U.S consulates require in person interviews for most visa applicants. You can schedule your visa appointment up to 120 days before your course start date and you will need to pay your SEVIS fee ($350 which can be paid online at https://www.fmjfee.com/i901fee/index.html ) for your I20 prior to the appointment.
The visa will normally allow you to enter the USA up to 30 days before the reporting date shown on the I-20.
SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) is the internet-based database system which tracks and stores information on the visa status and activities of international students holding F-1 and J-1 visas in the USA.
Please note that the SEVIS fee (which students need to pay in order to apply for a visa) is $350. This money is payable directly to SEVIS. This fee is non-refundable even if a visa is denied.
Yes, it is required that you have coverage for health insurance.
Students on an F1 visa are required to study a minimum of 18 hours per week and maintain at least 80% overall attendance in order to remain in full status. Students who are terminated are eligible to transfer to another F1 certified school and apply for re-instatement of their student status or must leave the country within 15 days of termination.
If you have questions, doubts, curiosity, or even suggestions, comments, greetings, write or call us. With us, it’s never too late to leave, we can organise your trip in just a couple of days, suitcase included!
